Each year during the festival, growers donate blooms for the floats as well as business and residential decoration contests. The Begonia Festival is a participation festival spanning two weekends beginning on Labor Day Weekend. There will be a Sand Castle Contest (not limited to the creation of castles), a Fishing Derby, Row Boat Races, and the Nautical Parade where begonia covered barges float downstream to the lagoon at the mouth of Soquel Creek. Wharf To Wharf Race July Late July marks the Wharf to Wharf Race. 14,000 runners from across the country and around the world will gather to do the six-mile run from Santa Cruz to Capitola-By-The-Sea.
